Ravenswood is proud to be authorised to deliver the Primary Years Programme (PYP) of the International Baccalaureate (IB).
Current research is highlighting that the best learning takes place through the exploration of concepts, processes and skills. Students quickly
and effectively acquire the skills and attitudes to equip them for a successful life of learning. They are learning how to learn. The PYP is
an effective framework to allow this to happen.
Each classroom is a dynamic learning environment where the students can actively inquire, continually build on their understanding of the world and take responsibility for their learning.
Students are encouraged to become active, lifelong learners. They work collaboratively with teachers and peers to plan, present and assess their own learning.
Teachers facilitate this by posing relevant, significant, challenging and engaging questions that involve learning across different curriculum areas. The students use critical and creative thinking to develop knowledge, understanding and skills. This form of inquiry learning lends itself to hands on tasks and promotes active involvement in the learning experience.
To implement the curriculum along with Positive Education and Visible Wellbeing initiatives, we weave the mandatory outcomes set down by The NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) with the framework of the PYP.
The Mission Statement of the IB sits seamlessly alongside both our Guiding Principles of Excellence, Respect, Optimism, Courage and Compassion, and the ethos of the Uniting Church.
